eh

Regardless of the merits of Myers vs. Burnett, it sounds like this would be a deal that cost less money and more prospects, which seems like the opposite of what the Pirates want.

i didnt look up Myers' stats

but i saw a few of his starts, and echo gonfalon’s comment above… do not want.

That's the deal-breaker for me.

I’ll never sign off on the acquisition of a known wife- or girlfriend-beater.

Apparently nothing

From The 700 Level, Philly’s Comcast sports site:

At an eventual pre-trial hearing that October, Kim made it clear that she did not intend to press charges on her husband, claiming it as an isolated incident not connected to any greater pattern of abuse.

Objectively: his notoriety, playing in obscurity in Houston, and his bad traditional numbers last year suppress his value. He’s probably kind of a steal for the right team (I thought the Yankees would go after him last year).

But I still would rather not see the guy in black & gold. I have to live with Roethlisberger; don’t make Pittsburgh sports something I can’t always be proud of.

As is often the case with battered women, she refused to press charges with the police, even though there were several witnesses who watched him hitting her in the middle of a public street:

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brett Myers and his wife were walking back from a bar late Thursday night to their Back Bay hotel when an argument broke out. Authorities and witnesses say Myers then assaulted his wife, leaving her sitting on the sidewalk with a swollen face, crying.

She told police her husband hit her in the face twice with his fist, according to the police report. Witnesses said he slapped her and then pulled her off the ground by her hair.
[…]
Courtney Knight, 26, who witnessed the alleged attack at 900 Boylston St. with two friends, said in a telephone interview that Myers seemed ``really angry.“

``He was dragging her by the hair and slapping her across the face,” Knight said. ``She was yelling, `I’m not going to let you do this to me anymore.’ “

Knight said the 6-foot-4 -inch, 240-pound ballplayer dwarfed his wife, whom police report at 5 feet 4 inches and 120 pounds.

``She’s a real small girl,” Knight said. ``It was awful.“

Knight said Myers was undeterred by the presence of her and her friends.

``He had her on the ground,” Knight said. ``He was trying to get her to go, and she was resisting. She curled up and sat on the ground. He was pulling her, her shirt was up around her neck. . . . He could have cared less that we were there.“

One of her friends, Sly Egidio, 30, of East Boston, said Myers appeared to pull his wife ``out of her shoes” before hitting her.

``I watched him just haul off and smack her in the face," Egidio said. ``She said: `I’m tired of this. I’m all done.’ “

Egidio said Kim Myers was on the ground crying when her husband pulled her up by her hair.

``This was violent,” Egidio said. ``This was wrong. Even if it was a Red Sox [player], I would have done something. And I love the Red Sox." Egidio works for Boston Baseball magazine, distributing it at Fenway.

this ain't a court of law

but even if it were, eyewitness testimony is the opposite of hearsay, isn’t it?

newspaper articles are here say.

this person was never sworn in under oath. until an accuser faces the accused, its here say. i can’t get police reports, from the cops, admitted in my divorce. i have to have the cops testify at my expense. only they can authenticate report, until they do, its here say. same goes for newspaper articles.

IMO, the wife needs to nut-up and do something about it

they always trailer park it and go back to bubba despite the bruises and tears.

fair enough

Then we go back to, this ain’t a court of law. Just because something isn’t admissible as legal evidence doesn’t mean you can’t take it into account if you’re deciding what to think, as long as you’re not a judge or juror.

Yep.

I wouldn’t want to sign OJ, either, even though he wasn’t ever convicted of murdering anybody.

by Vlad on Feb 16, 2012 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Doesn't matter whether or not it's inadmissible.

It’s eyewitness accounts of what happened, from a series of uninvolved bystanders, and they all independently say the same thing.

Myers is a wife-beating asshole, and I don’t want him anywhere near this team.
