Nationals aggresively shopping John Lannan
Reported by Rosenthal and Morosi, with Bill Ladson tweeting the Nats are looking for a position player in return. Lannan was recently awarded $5M in arbitration and will be under team control in 2013 as well.
It wouldn't be a sexy acquisition by any means, but Lannan's profile/stats/salary are quite comparable to Paul Maholm. Considering most seem to agree the Bucs could use another starter, with some lamenting the loss of Maholm, tell me... yay or nay on Lannan? If yes, who do you offer in exchange?

For Strasburg
I’d include him and maybe like a GFJ, but that’s really the only piece other than Harper that interests me.
The glare of the spotlight is harsh, and the pressure that success breeds immense. We revere our heroes, but expect much. And criticism can come as easily as praise.
Perspectives become reality.

So was I
Kidding of course. I’m really not familiar enough with their system to know what fits there.

Egads, no
I’ll crosspost here what I said on the front page thread about Jackson signing with the Nats:
Lannan’s career splits:
vs. L 7.58 K/9, 2.58 BB/9 4.20 FIP
vs. R 3.75 K/9, 3.56 BB/9 4.75 FIP
Lannan is a LOOGY masquerading as a starter. At best he should be a swingman.
Jose Tabata is the truth
The following is a list of everything Darren McFadden is bad at: 1) Giving birth. End of list.
and his ERA has crushed his FIP for like 5 years running
with Christian Guzman as his short stop.
David Price has a 3.91 FIP against righties, he must secretly be a #3 masquerading as an Ace.
i'd do it for Nate McLouth
I hate letting Gorkys go for what is not very much… its a pity we cant trade McLouth
but why? gorky's is Corey Patterson light. he'll never hit enough to be a major leaguer...
that being said, it wouldnt be enough to bring Lannan to the Burgh anyway.
Gorky's probably wont even make the Pirates top 20 prospects from BA
yet we can swing him over to DC fo Lannan who has actually had some success in the big leagues???
doubtful.
very.
I can’t imagine why we would trade for a guy like Lannan at this point when we could’ve just signed a guy like Lannan.
I think he’s far more of a sure thing than Jeff Francis. I’m not sure how many other guys were available to us for that cheap.
and Francis accepted a minor league deal, because he wants to play with a contender
and lets face it, everyone sees the Reds as contenders.
