"It's going to be a fresh start," Burnett said. "It's going to be fun. I'm going back to the National League, where I can hit and bunt and get the joy back into the game."

Clint's gonna love this guy

Sounds good to me.

That interview

is also on the Pirates website, along with comments by NH and Hurdle.

Burnett was certainly aware of the barrage of criticism he faced in New York the last couple of years, and one could see how that would take the joy out of the game. Any season without a World Title is considered a failure in Gotham.

I’m glad he’s saying the right things. I think chicken and Beer Beckett should his PR guy.

Oh

Ya sounds like he’s got a good attitude, but I was referring to how excited he is about bunting.

Off to a good start

It would be so easy for him to come in like a prima dona. It sure sounds like he is coming in with the right attitude to make this work.

Well, he didn't Derrick Lee us

So that’s a positive sign right there.

Lee has been just about as classy as it’s possible for him to be, under the circumstances. He played hard while he was here, and didn’t badmouth the town in public. If he doesn’t want to come back, that’s his prerogative.

It’s not like he went all Marian Hossa on us.

The glare of the spotlight is harsh, and the pressure that success breeds immense. We revere our heroes, but expect much. And criticism can come as easily as praise.

But he did sound pretty bummed out that was traded here.

Yeah

But when first talking about coming here, he basically was talking like he was going to the worst place on earth. He was talking in a tone like he really didn’t want to come here. That’s what I was getting and that’s what alot of other people were getting at when they were making a fuss about what he initally said. You don’t remember everyone here deciphering his comments Vlad?

There’s a difference between looking disappointed and actually coming out and saying that you’re disappointed. I don’t think you can blame a guy for his feelings – just what he does (or doesn’t do) with them.

Then why were everyone on here

Picking apart his words and tried to translate what he was really was saying? People were making a big deal on his initial thoughts on coming here and that’s why i’m even beinging this up. I know he didn’t flat out say he was sad about coming here, but that didn’t stop everyone here from trying to real between and lines and find something bad.

probably doesn’t want his legacy tied into our losing streak. can’t really blame him, imo.

Believe me his legacy will be fine regardless that he played here

Playing half a year for the Bucs wasn’t enough time to alter his legacy. He’ll be remembered as a Marlin and Cub, not necessarily a Buc or Oriole if you know what I mean.
