Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Very interesting article from Jonah Keri at Grantland on the next big Cuban star. Some video game numbers. He's only 24, two years younger then Cespedes. Might be one of the last areas for the Bucs to exploit a market inefficiency.

I’m sure the Bucs will go after this guy just as seriously as they did Cespedes.

Occupy MLB! Down with Seligula!

Haven’t read the article yet, but if he isn’t eligible before July 2nd, wouldn’t he be subject to the international cap next year? So it would more or less be him picking what team he wants to go to.

I’m pretty sure he’d be too old to be subject to the international cap.

Not actually affiliated with whygavs.

I don't think they'd go after him either,

but I doubt it hurts to look. He’d probably be less costly. Although it talks more about Abreu, its more about Cuban baseball anyway and how shrouded in mystery it is. Frankly, I think a lot of guys like Cespedes and Soler will set the tone for others like Abreu; if they bomb, that might drive down everyone else’s payday.

first he has to leave Cuba (defect)

then because he’s over 23 and has more than 3 years in the Cuban league, he’s a professional free agent, not subject to any restrictions

tweeted to Jonah my projection of Abreu (thru this past weekend’s game) is 304/436/557. I agree that he would comparable to someone like Miguel Cabrera, and would probably get a contract in that range.

So you think

he’d get more than Cespedes? I’m thinking he sounds like a better hitter (or at least more power than Cespedes, who isn’t exactly shy in that department) but it sounds like everything else (speed, glove, arm) would be in Cespedes’ favor. Although Abreu is 3 years younger…is there a link to any scouting report?
