Pirates Sign Kris Harvey to Minor League Deal
I don't think this was noted anywhere here yet. Harvey is, or was, interesting because he was a two-way prospect coming out of college as a power arm and bat. I think most teams liked the arm, but the Marlins took him as an OF/3B. He struggled increasingly with the strike zone over 3+ seasons, so they moved him to the mound, where he's . . . struggled with the strike zone. He's edged into the upper 90s with his FB in the past, but I don't know about now. There's probably very little chance of him ever getting past AA.

"There's probably very little chance of him ever getting past AA."
if Harvey follows the 12 steps, he just might
but in all seriousness, I wish him luck, health and success
Perhaps
someone just needs to sit down with him and, very carefully, go over the strike zone. It could be Jose Bautista redux: better living through coaching!
No risk move, potentially significant return
Huntington has proven that he recognizes low-risk, high reward free agent arms. Guys like Resop, Veras, Leroux. Throws hard, free agent, sign ’em cheap.
Why not? What’s the worst that can happen? He flames out in AA or AAA?
And what if he finds the strike zone? A legit power arm for nothing. I’ll buy that for a dollar.
A kid can throw a ball 98 mph
And you make him a hitter. I’ll never get it.

Whereas, a kid who throws 91 and leads the NCAA in HRs, you make a pitcher.
