Minor League Ball's Top 5 College Players
Of course its ridiculously early, but this at least gets some of the names out there for some people. They published a top 5 HS players yesterday I believe (I think it had Giolito, Weichel, Correa, Fried, and Trey Williams...surprisingly no Buxton). Either way, the college piece is interesting because he makes it sound like Marrero could fall a bit to the Bucs range, which I wouldn't mind. Have at it.

Marrero wouldn't
be a sexy pick, but at #8 I’d certainly take it. If you Baseball America’s scouting report on him, which is absolutely glowing in regards to his defensive skills, the Pirates could do much worse than Marrero. He’d also fit in nicely with what the Pirates are trying to do.
Honestly, it could turn out very well. If Cutch signs even a year extension and the Pirates do nab Marrero, and then we get lucky with development (especially Alvarez, Cole, and Taillon).. 2014-2016 could look like
C – Tony Sanchez (average to above-average catcher: high OBP, plus defense)
1B – Alex Dickerson/Pedro Alvarez (average to plus 1B)
2B – Neil Walker (average to slightly above-average 2B)
3B – Pedro Alvarez/Jarek Cunningham(?)/Trade (average to plus 3B)
SS – Deven Marrero (average to above-average SS)
LF – Jose Tabata (above-average LF)
CF – Andrew McCutchen (elite CF)
RF – Starling Marte (above-average to elite RF)
1 – Jameson Taillon (true ace)
2 – Gerrit Cole (true ace)
3 – Trade (#1-2 or #2-3)
4 – James McDonald
5 – Jeff Locke

That all said
I’m starting to lean towards wanting Gausman.

It's 3:53
so forgive me for not thinking before i hit post and failing to complete my thoughts.
Gausman and then add Diekroeger in the supp. round.

From a lot of the comments
it sounds like Diekroger is falling quite a bit…sounded like there was talk of him going in the top 10 earlier and I didn’t read anything like that there. Of course, none of that matters at this stage.
Exactly
He was the favorite for #1 12 months ago as well. Shows how fluid the situation is.

Very fluid
and we haven’t even had data yet for this year! It might be a good year to be in the position where the Bucs are, in the latter half of the top 10 rather than #1 overall. As it stands (right now, of course) I think the only guys for sure the Bucs wouldn’t get from HS or college are Zunino, Gioloto, and maybe Appel.
Which
sucks cause I want Giolito!

Yeah, me too
he sounds like a monster. People are already saying he looks better than Taillon and Bundy, but I’m going to attribute that to “shiny new toy” syndrome. At least for now.

what if his draft stock were to fall because some other guys’ draft stocks rise? what if theres a few danny hultzen type players than just come out of nowhere to make it into the top 10 picks. i want either Giolito(if he were to fall) Correa (i see him as just like manny machado), Zunino, or Roache
Could happen
I think its already happened with McCullers, whom people were touting not too long ago as a top-of-the-draft pick. I wouldn’t have a problem with any of the 4 you posted as who you would like (although Correa lags behind the other 3 for me substantially).
see based on videos i have seen of Correa and his breakdown from different scouting services, for some reason i see him as one of those darkhorse guys draft in the 1st round that when its all said and done he will end up one of the best players of the draft based on MLB performance. like the guys that have the talent to be 1st rounders, but with hard work, adversity for not going as high, and just basically adjusting to pro ball life better, they become the better MLB players than those drafted higher. like look as Jacoby Ellsbury, drafted 23rd overall in 2005 but he could be one of the best all around players in the bigs now that he added the power to his game.
I dunno
you could probably say that about a lot of players too. Cecchini for one, maybe Fried too as he might be overlooked being Giolito’s teammate. I’ll have to find more on Correa, he sounds like he’s got a pretty high ceiling.

see I want the bucs to snag either Correa, Zunino (if he falls to them at #8 picking him will be a no brainer), or Roache. if they went pitcher route I think Fried would be a solid pick to have a lefty complement the other young righty arms in the system (Taillon, Cole, Heredia, McPherson)
If Marrero falls
I’d say take him. People might hem and haw and say thats a “safe” pick. But if they can get an SS who hits .260-.280 with above average D, very good arm, hits 10-15 HR a year…well, that would probably put him in the top 10 SS in the game.
The write-up they had of Correa kind of scares me away from him; kind of sounds like he may not stick there and I’m not sure how good the bat is. Would like to see more about Cecchini, and Buxton too. They sound intriguing.
Really interested to see what Roache does this year…wouldn’t be a bad thing to get some mashers in the system would it? If Zunino AND Marrero fall (unlikely but possible) I wouldn’t know what to do.

Correa makes me think of manny machado when machado was approaching the draft in 2010. and im tired of seeing scouts and websites saying guys will grow out of the SS position….cause look at Tulo, 6 foot 3, 215 pds while being a 25+ HR guy doesnt sound like a “prototypical” shortstop to me. and i want the buccos to continue picking the BEST player available no matter what the signability is, so if it would come down to a fallen marrero or someone else with higher upside, i’d rather take the higher upside guy
I agree with you on the
scouts and SS thing. According to scouts, there are maybe 5-6 guys on Earth who can play or “stick” at SS. Nevermind the fact that someone has to actually play the position…drives me nuts when scouts do that. However, the player available in that case might mean Marrero, if he’s very likely to be a productive, very good fielding SS at the major league level.
