It seemed after the trade of AJ Burnett that we had quite a bit of depth in our rotation. Now we are closing in on opening day and it seems to me that we have more questions than ever.
Burnett is working out and hopefully will be back sooner than expected. I still don't see anyway he can make it back before May.
How long is Morton going to be out? And can he step in to be a number 3 guy on this team?
Jeff Karstens seems to be Mr. consistent with this team and hopefully even though he doesn't dazzle, he will be able to keep the team in the game.
Erik Bedard is looking decent in spring and I am still hopeful that he brings his miss the bat stuff all year long. I can see him pitching lights out one night and getting torched the next, but over the entire season I think the projects for a plus year are accurate.
James McDonald is having a dismal spring and I don't see how moving north is going to all of a sudden bring his control. He is a big question mark for me and while I hope he can take another step forward this year, I worry about him going mental and not being able to hit the glove.
Correia got lit up today and I don't know what to expect from him. Moving up north could really help him, as control hasn't been a real issue he is just getting hit hard. Since the bar isn't set too high for him, hopefully he can eat some innings until everyone is healthy.
I don't see anyone else ready to step up as a starter. Lincoln has shown nothing to make me think he can do it. Locke still looks like he has quite a bit to work on. All the guys who have had decent springs project as relievers.
Do we just bite the bullet, hope for the best and hope Morton and Burnett don't take too long? I am worried that April is going to be a tough month for us, just hope they can put things together and go .500.
