Here's a roundup of minor-league action from Wednesday:
-P- West Virginia beat Savannah 2-1. Zac Fuesser allowed one unearned run over six innings, striking out eight and walking none. Alen Hanson went 2-for-4.
-P- Bradenton got four-hit by Charlotte and lost 8-0. Gerrit Cole allowed five runs, two earned in five innings, which I wouldn't worry much about; it sounds like it was a defensive debacle. He struck out five and walked two.
-P- Altoona got five-hit and also lost 8-0. Nathan Baker allowed seven runs, six earned, in 5.1 innings. Victor Black struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief and now has nine strikeouts and three walks in 7.2 innings this season. As I think I've mentioned here before, Black doesn't have a ton of pro experience, due to all his injuries, and here he is getting off to a good start in Class AA. Watch out for him.
-P- Indianapolis beat Brett Tomko (who I'm amazed is still pitching) and Louisville, 5-1. Tomko actually struck out eight batters and walked only one, however. Jake Fox went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Starling Marte entered as a pinch-hitter and went 1-for-2 with a double.
