Brad Lincoln Will Start On Monday

Clint Hurdle told reporters today that Erik Bedard will not make his scheduled start on Monday and Brad Lincoln will take his place. There is lots of good in this seemingly bad news. First, Bedard isn't seriously injured after leaving his start on Wednesday with back spasms. He is just being pushed back until Wednesday. Second, Lincoln has been excellent since being recalled. He's shown increased velocity, regularly touching 95-96, and excellent command of his curveball. It will be interesting to see how that plays as he goes through the Marlins lineup a couple of times on Monday. Starting pitching depth appeared to be a major concern on February 1. With Lincoln, the recent performances of a handful of minor leaguers (Owens, Wilson, Locke) and the return of Jeff Karstens, it has potentially become the team's biggest strength.
