Who'd of "Plunked" it? Shades of Jason Kendall

Matt Hague was hit by a pitch tonight for the first time in his career and he couldn't be happier. It was a walk-off, game winning RBI--also the first of his career.

Well, he has a long way to go to catch former Pirate standout Jason Kendall who was hit by 177 pitches during his 9-year career with the Corsairs.

I did some preliminary research and am provided a list of all Pirates since 1970 who have been hit by at least 10 pitches in a year. I think you'll some of the names surprising.

1970: Al Oliver 14

1975: Richie Hebner 10

1996: Jason Kendall 15

1997: Jason Kendall 31

1998: Jason Kendall 31 and Kevin Young 11

1999: Kendall 12, Young 12, and Ed Sprague 17

2000: Kendall 15

2001: Kendall 20 and Young 11

2002: Craig Wilson 21

2003: Kendall 25

2004: Kendall 19, Jason Bay 10, and Craig Wilson 30

2005: Ryan Doumit 13 and Craig Wilson 10

2006: Chris Duffy 10, Joe Randa 11, and Jose Batista 16

2007: Xavier Nady 12

2008: Nate McLouth 12

Ahh, to have Batista now . . .
