ST. LOUIS, MO - MAY 2: A.J. Burnett #34 of the Pittsburgh Pirates walks off the mound after giving up 12 runs on 12 hits in 2.2 innings of work against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on May 2, 2012 in St. Louis, Missouri. (Photo by Jeff Curry/Getty Images)
A.J. Burnett allowed four runs in the first inning, at which point the game was more or less over, and then the Pirates for some reason let him run out there and allow eight more, for a staggering total of 12. That total included two homers by Carlos Beltran. Burnett's ERA is now 8.04, which is amazing given how good his first two starts were. Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-3 with a walk and scored all three Pirates runs, Josh Harrison went 2-for-2, and the bullpen pitched 5.1 meaningless, but scoreless, innings. I haven't seen this one yet and I'm not sure how much of it I plan on seeing, but if you want to rubberneck, this is the thread for that.
