Minor League Roundup: Starling Marte Falls a Double Short of a Cycle; Jeff Karstens' Rehab Not So Good

Stay connected for news and updates

A short slate on Friday, as Altoona and Bradenton get rained out:

-P- Indianapolis lost to Syracuse, 7-5. Starling Marte went 3-4 with a single, triple and his fifth HR. He lost a chance to go for a cycle when the game ended with him in the on-deck circle. Yamaico went 2-4 with a triple. Jose Morales evidently hasn't gone anywhere, as he made the game's last out as a pinch hitter. Jeff Karstens' second AAA rehab start could have gone better. He allowed four unearned runs in the 3rd after a two-out error by Chase d'Arnaud prolonged the inning. He then gave up two earned runs in the 5th. Karstens allowed six hits and a walk in his five innings, and fanned six. He threw 58 of 82 pitches for strikes.

-P- West Virginia dropped a 9-6 game to Hickory. Nick Kingham struggled after pitching well in his previous three starts. He gave up six runs on seven hits and three walks in 4.2 IP, with five Ks. Three of the hits were HRs. The Power played again without Alen Hanson--I haven't seen anything indicating why and he's not on the DL. Even without Hanson, West Virginia had five players with at least two hits. Carlos Mesa had three, including a double. Gregory Polanco and Dan Gamache each had a single and double, and Jose Osuna belted his third HR.
