As Pittsburgh heads out on the road to Baltimore and Cleveland for the next six games, it is time for Jeff Clement to join the roster. I do not think "Clement is the Answer" nor "Superstar in the Making", but he can add to the Pirates already improving offense.
Clement is currently putting up .301/.383/.528 triple slash at Indy and even better recently and v RHP. Clement can add another power bat in the lineup and slotting him in behind Alvarez in the 6th slot will give immediate protection for Alvarez.
Mercer is not seeing enough time on the field. He got a few starts, was around the league for an extended time and now has an idea of the major league life. However, it is time for him to get back to playing SS everyday. It will be interesting to see if he draws the start Sunday in his possible finale.
Slaten is another option to be sent down, since there is less pinch hitting in AL parks. Mercer makes more sense.
Clement should be in each lineup when a RH starter in on the mound. Six games may not be enough time to fully evaluate Clement, but it should give a clearer picture as to keep McGehee. There is no reason to keep Hague and McGehee if Alvarez is going to start every day.
