The Pirates officially signed Jon Sandfort today. He'll join their stable of big-bodied young pitchers. He'll pitch in the GCL. UPDATE: Jim Callis tweets that Sandford will get $462,900, which is the full pool recommendation. That's a shame -- I thought Sandford was perhaps a bit of an overdraft and he seemed eager to sign, so I thought there was a chance for the Pirates to save a bit of money there. UPDATE: The Pirates evidently signed seventh-rounder Jake Stallings for $10,000 and 10th-rounder Pat Ludwig for $5,000, which saves them a total of $258,000 against the pool. (Both were college seniors.) Between those two, Eric Wood, and Barrett Barnes, the Pirates have saved almost half a million dollars against the pool total. They could use that money on Mark Appel or on a later-round pick.
