James McDonald, Pirates Crush Twins, 9-1

The Pirates got to Liam Hendriks, but not exactly in the way I expected. They got a run in the first when Andrew McCutchen tripled and Garrett Jones knocked him in with an infield single, then got three more in the second not really because of hard-hit balls (although it was McCutchen's bases-clearing double that ended up bringing everyone home), but because Twins shortstop Brian Dozier bobbled a key play.

The Bucs finally did homer off Hendriks in the sixth, when Pedro Alvarez singled and Rod Barajas crushed a ball to left-center. Garrett Jones and Alvarez homered off Jeff Manship in the seventh, with Alvarez's homer nearly clearing the stadium on the fly.

Meanwhile, James McDonald pitched a complete game, throwing 120 pitches (!), striking out five, and walking none.

Whee! That's how you beat a bad team.
