I really don't see this as being particularly newsworthy, though plenty on twitter sure got bent out of shape that Appel didn't speak to the media. The kid has exams and the college World Series and I'm sure he's disappointed that he went 8th and not 1st. That probably cost him millions. Having said all that, I imagine Scott Boras had this statement set to go no matter where he went in the draft. "I'm currently concentrating on winning a national championship and finishing my academic endeavors at Stanford. I will address the possibility of a professional career in due time."
