Clutch hitting when it counts!

The Pirates head in to tonight's game with the Reds still ranked last in MLB in runs scored and OBP. For some reason, poor stats make as great copy as exceptions one, so I'll just say that we need to continue hitting when it matters. When the Dodgers won the WS in 1965, they averaged 3.75 runs a game, significantly below the NL average. Their clutch hitting, thanks to Sweet Lou Johnson and Johnny Roseboro helped out. And they ranked dead last in HRs with just 78. Of course we don't have a Koufax-Drysdale combo, but I'd like to stress the point that teams can win with a poor offense, if they have timely hitting, plate discipline, and have a few consistent performers. Who fits that description for us? Don't laugh at the comparison with the Dodgers: We're getting just a tad under 3.1 runs a game this year and have averaged over 4.0 since 2008.
