Wyatt Mathisen - should we really turn him into a catcher ?

I know it's early and we don't yet know how things are going to develop with young Mathisen. But apparently the Pirates plan to develop him as a catcher, even though he has played at SS in highschool a lot. Mathisen is supposed to be a good hitting prospect, hitting for average, but with some power to go with it. So Mathisen is what we do need more of in the organization which is laden with pitching prospects, but rather barren as far as hitting is concerned.

We all know that catchers are more likely to suffer injuries (knee) due to the nature of the position, Mauer being a prime example. Also catchers have to sit out 1-2 games per week in order to prevent those injuries. So the question is: IF Mathisen is such a good hitting prospect, shouldn't we try to find a position for him in the infield so we can benefit from his hitting in as many games and for as many years as possible ?

I'd rather have an average hitter in the catching position, who is sound or even brilliant at defense so we can then use Mathisen's hitting to the max from an infielder's position. If Tony Sanchez sorts out his hitting at Indy, I feel Sanchez should be our everyday catcher whereas Mathisen in my view should be used at SS or 3B.

So what's your view ? Should Mathisen be our future catcher or future leadoff hitter and SS ?
