Pedro Alvarez is a .301/.374/.785 hitter who hits a homer every 7 AB's

Some decent flack has been made about El Toro's day and night splits, and for good reason. Without the lights on he's a top 10 hitter in baseball, with the lights on he's Carlos Pena. At first, one would have to assume it's mostly coincidence that he'd have such a ridiculous split based simply upon the time of day. But I have to believe there is a real reason behind the split, one painfully obvious. Pedro's biggest problem at the plate seems to be pitch recognition, even 14 year old's can pick up a curveball from the spin, the dot that comes at them, although sometimes that becomes more difficult at night, especially with the glare, for people with certain vision difficulties. Pedro either has astigmatism , or something similar that stops him from seeing the ball well, particularly the laces, during night games. If he can get his eyes taken care of, he becomes a perennial all star.
