Pirates Minor League Roundup: Whew! Jameson Taillon Throws Seven Shutout Innings

Altoona was off on Monday, but everybody else saw action.

-P- Indianapolis beat Buffalo, 6-2. Yamaico Navarro went 2-3 with a double, a walk and his 6th HR. Jose Tabata went 2-2 with two walks and Matt Hague went 3-4. Hague has quietly raised his average to .307, but he's not drawing walks or hitting for power, so his OPS isn't much over .700. Rick VandenHurk gave up one run on seven hits and a walk over six innings, while fanning seven.

-P- Jameson Taillon threw seven shutout innings, although it didn't keep Bradenton from losing to Lakeland, 1-0, in ten innings. Taillon allowed just two hits and walked three. He struck out four. Bradenton had only five hits, two of them by Carlos Mesa.

-P- West Virginia destroyed Hagerstown, 14-2. Jose Osuna led the offense, going 3-5 with four runs, three RBIs, and his 14th HR. Gregory Polanco went 3-4, Francisco Diaz went 3-3, and Willy Garcia went 2-5 with a triple and his 12th HR. Alen Hanson went 0-5 and can probably be officially considered in a slump, although as slumps go it's not very dramatic. In his last ten games he's 6-37; oddly, he's struck out only twice. Zack Dodson started and allowed a run over six innings on four hits and two walks. He fanned four. Ryan Hafner threw a scoreless inning and managed not to walk anybody. The program for him now seems to be one-inning outings.

-P- State College dropped a 2-1 decision to Lowell. Luis Heredia allowed one run on three hits and two walks over four and a third innings. He struck out three. Dalton Friend fanned three over two relief innings, but allowed the winning run. The Spikes had only four hits, two by recently activated Derek Trent. Barrett Barnes was caught stealing twice.

-P- The GCL Pirates lost to the Phillies, 5-3. Jon Sandfort, who failed to survive the first inning in two of his first three starts, went three innings and retired all nine hitters he faced. He didn't strike out anybody. Aaron Pribanic, whose rehab seems to be proceeding slowly, allowed one run in one inning. Edwin Espinal went 3-4 and Eric Wood 2-4, and they each had a triple.

-P- The DSL Pirates1 beat the Marlins, 4-2. Mervin del Rosario allowed one unearned run over five innings, on three hits and a walk. Maximo Rivera and Daniel Arribas went 1-3.

-P- The DSL Pirates2 shut out the Giants, 3-0. Christian Henriquez started and pitched four innings, allowing a hit and three walks. He struck out two. Gustavo Barrios and Jose Salazar each went 2-4.
