The Pirates announced they have optioned Justin Wilson and Kyle McPherson to AAA and recalled Daniel McCutchen and reinstated Chad Qualls from the bereavement list.

This move is sure to raise some eyebrows. Both Wison and McPherson were impressive in their major league debuts last night. I have no problem with McPherson going back down, but Wilson is a different story. Now neither player can be recalled for ten days, barring injury or unforeseen circumstances.

The Pirates continue to play without their best 25.

UPDATE by Charlie: These are frustrating moves. The minor-league season is almost over, so there's little developmental purpose in sending down McPherson or Wilson to start. I'd have liked to see them both, or at least Wilson, remain in the big-league bullpen.
