I think we were all upset after Tuesday night's, or rather Wednesday morning's (depending on where you live) heart-wrenching and devastating loss to the sub-par Padres. Looking at the comments in the game thread, and myself included, it was obvious who the culprit for this loss was. Leaving a proven guy and team leader like A.J. Bunett in the game to try and get him the win as well as have him leave the game on a positive note is one thing. But choosing Chad Qualls to pitch over Jason Grille in the 8th inning had many folks a bit frustrated. Then he iced the cake with the decision to bring in the recently-called up-from-AAA Daniel McCutcheon rather than Jared Hughes or established closer Joel Hanrahan in the 10th to face the heart of the Pads' lineup. Prior to that, Garret Jones had heroically tied the game with a 2-run blast in the top of the 9th, giving the Bucs a second life. D-Cutch walked the first batter he faced and proceeded to give up a 2-run bomb via Chase Headley to win the game for San Diego in walk-off fashion. Now many can argue the fact that we have better bullpen options than Qualls and D-Cutch in the first place, but I would like to strictly focus on Hurdle here. I could get into all of the more-than-questionable decisions the Bucs' manager has made in recent weeks, or even all season But rather than pick my brain and try to remember every #Hurdled moment, I thought I would leave the floor open to the BD community. What are your thoughts on Hurdle? Is he a good manager, a mediocre one, or a horrible one? In your mind, has his decisions cost us some wins this season? Or do the players and upper management deserve a fair share of the blame? I am interested to find out how many of you think Clint Hurdle is the right man for the job. Please give a valid and FAIR explanation as to why you think Hurdle is or isn't a good manager. I have come to find BD has some of the more knowledgeable and passionate Pirates fans compared to most blogs, and I am interested to see what many of you think of the current management situation.
