Not to beat a dead horse here, but am I the only one who sat through all of last night's game waiting for Matt Holiday to take one in the ribs only to be disappointed?
Lest we forget, Harrison got drilled the night before just a few innings after his brutal -- but 100 percent legal and defensible -- collision at home plate. Did the umpires warn both teams before the game again and threaten to suspend our pitcher if we retaliated?
If so, that really sucks because in all likelihood last night was the last game we'll play against the Cardinals this season and it's a little difficult to send a message to the other team that you won't be intimidated when there's a lapse of nine months between crime and punishment.
On a related note, I can't believe the ESPN crew doing the game didn't even mention Harrison getting beaned. They showed the collision several times and said it set the tone for the game. They also said this Pirate team doesn't want to be lumped with previous teams that would allow themselves to be bullied by their opponents.
But they never said a word about the beaning -- not even when Holliday went in hard at second trying to take Harrison out on a potential double play. Was it just ignorance or did the league issue a gag order?
PS -- We still owe the Reds one. Joey Votto, I'm looking at you.
