Pirates' Minor League Roundup: Jameson Taillon (OK) and Nick Kingham (Outstanding) Make Final Starts

The Friday roundup:

-P- Indianapolis looks like they'll be going into the playoffs hot, as the Indians won for the 12th time in their last 15 games, 6-1 over Toledo. Rick VandenHurk threw six shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks, and fanning six. Tony Sanchez went 2-3 with two doubles and a walk. Hector Luna made his debut in the system, going 2-4. Matt Curry made his AAA debut, striking out as a pinch hitter for DH Eric Fryer, who'd gone 2-3.

-P- Jameson Taillon had an OK start in his last outing of the year as Altoona beat Erie, 4-3. Taillon went six, allowing three runs on six hits, three of them doubles, and a walk. He struck out five. Erie ran wild on Taillon and Ramon Cabrera, stealing five bases in five tries, although Taillon did pick a runner off second. Cabrera, Adalberto Santos and Jeremy Farrell each had two hits, with Santos and Farrell collecting doubles and Cabrera a triple. Andrew Lambo hit his 4th HR.

-P- Bradenton dropped a 7-3 decision to St. Lucie. Starter Jhonathan Ramos allowed six runs and nine hits in five innings. Erik Turgeon struck out six in three innings in relief. Carlos Mesa went 2-4 with a double. Alex Dickerson didn't play, but Andy Vasquez has been promoted to Altoona to replace Curry, so I assume Dickerson was just getting a day off.

-P- West Virginia rode Nick Kingham's final start to a 3-2 win over Delmarva. Kingham threw six shutout innings before giving up two runs in the 7th. He allowed five hits and walked nobody, while striking out nine. Taylor Lewis provided the winning margin with an 8th inning HR, his 4th. Dan Gamache went 2-3 with two doubles, giving him 39 on the season.

-P- A bullpen implosion, a common problem for State College recently, cost the Spikes an 8-7 loss to Jamestown. Clay Holmes allowed three runs on six hits in five innings. He fanned only one but didn't walk anybody. He left with a 5-3 lead, but the bullpen promptly gave up five runs. State College got two in the 9th to pull to within one, but left the tying run on second. Eric Wood, in his second New York-Penn League game, went 2-4 with a triple and three RBIs. D.J. Crumlich went 3-5 with two doubles. Chris Diaz and Samuel Gonzalez each went 2-5. Dilson Herrera went 1-4 in his second State College game.
