Kevin McClatchy, owner and CEO of the Pirates from 1996-2007, acknowledges he is gay to Frank Bruni of the New York Times. It's unfortunate that an individual's sexual orientation is still headline news, but McClatchy's concerns about revealing his orientation, expressed in the article, are similar to many we have heard in the past from those involved in the sporting world.
UPDATE by Charlie: I have no wish to turn this into a political thread, but the note that McClatchy met his current boyfriend through Rick Santorum's Senate office is pretty interesting, regardless of your political views.
For their contentment they have Rick Santorum, the former senator from Pennsylvania, to thank. They were fixed up by someone who worked for Santorum and whom McClatchy first got to know through his professional interactions, when he owned the Pirates, with Santorum’s Senate office.
