Wyatt Mathisen, Dilson Herrera, Tyler Glasnow and Jin-De Jhang all make Baseball America's year-end list.
The Pirates have placed four players in Baseball America's list of the top 20 prospects in the Gulf Coast League. Wyatt Mathisen comes in at No. 5, followed by Dilson Herrera at No. 7, Tyler Glasnow at No. 9, and Jin-De Jhang at No. 19.
This is a great showing, obviously, especially given that the first three guys on the list are 2012 first-round picks (with the first two players on the list, Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa, being the second and first overall picks, respectively), and the Pirates effectively didn't have a first-round pick. It's typically really hard to know how to take GCL stats, so it's nice to see BA echo WTM's assessment of the team. This is particularly true given that the knock against the Pirates' drafting, at least from people like me, is that they haven't gotten nearly enough outside the first two overall picks. With two non-first-round draftees (Mathisen and Glasnow) in the top 10, that criticism doesn't work here, at least not at this early stage.
