We all know now what's done is done regarding the fact the Pirates suffered the worst collapse in Major League Baseball history. I mean 16 games above .500 to probably 10 below .500 (if the Pirates lose all 6 remaining games which is more likely than the Pirates winning out to get that magical 82 win mark) But what if things were different. What if Neal Huntington sucked it up and made that bold move. Someone like Chase Headley
As we all know Chase Headley has arguably been one of MLB's best players after the All Star Break. .302/.376/.571 21HRs 67RBIs in 69 games Sure we would've had to give up Starling Marte, Brad Lincoln, and probably either Luis Heredia or Alen Hanson but our minor league system would remain strong with Cole, Taillon, and Polanco still there. This move alone would've given the Pirates at least 10 more wins then what's going on now. I understand the move Neal made acquiring Travis Snider. The potential is there if he can avoid those nagging hammie issues that keep plaging him time and time again. Really this is the kind of move rebuilding teams do and the Pirates were past that. They needed one proven player to put the Pirates over the top to keep up with the Reds and Braves and they failed to do that. Even with the pitchng faltering as it did the offense would've been good enough to win those slugfest type of games. Instead their psyche was fragile again even worse than last year. Now it appears they'll have to sell GMFJ and Hammer (to name a few) to fill the holes the likes of J-Mac left behind over the offseason. 2013 doesn't look promising either since we will experience more growing pains with Marte, Snider, and the likely callups of Cole, Taillon, and even Tony Sanchez (theirs still hope for him) Man the Pirates are cursed.
