Pirates' Minor League Roundup: Two Playoff Losses and an Excellent Start for Luis Heredia

Three games on Wednesday:

-P- Indianapolis got pummeled in the opener of its best-of-five series against Charlotte, 8-1. Rick VandenHurk, who was coming off a strong regular season, gave up three in the first and three more in the 6th, then Jo-Jo Reyes gave up two more. The only Indians' run came in the bottom of the 1st when Starling Marte led off with a single and came around to score on a groundout by Hector Luna. Marte finished 1-3, while Luna and Chase d'Arnaud each went 2-4. Yamaico Navarro had a double, Indianapolis' only other hit.

-P- State College closed out its season with a 5-0 blanking of Mahoning Valley. Luis Heredia finished the season in fine form, going five innings and allowing just two hits and a walk. He struck out five. Walker Gourley went 3-4 with three doubles, Jesus Vasquez went 3-3 with two doubles and a walk, and Samuel Gonzalez went 2-4.

-P- The DSL Pirates1 failed to put away the Angels, losing game four of their final series, 5-0. The Bucs had only four hits and starter Christian Henriquez got knocked out in the 2nd inning.
