Hi, I have been looking into some of the more recent statistics that have become available to baseball fans over the last 15 years, and to a degree have learned what they mean and in some cases have embraced them as valuable.
As a result of today's Hall of Fame voting, and the lead-up to this vote, and all the debate over it, my thinking has been in review of these 'new' indicators of success. In addition to this I have been thinking about past Pirates, those of the losing streak generation, and wanted to compare contrast their performances while with the Pirates versus their performances elswhere after their stay in Pittsburgh.
So, my question is what are the best metrics (in your opinion) that should be reviewed in order to make this a thorough and sound review? In addition, I am looking for sites that provide excellent explanations of these stats (in case I am not familiar with them)so that I can, not only understand the meaning, but also the value of the stats.
It's my hope that, through your responses, I'll learn a little bit about some metrics I had not previously considered when reviewing a players career and value (current and past), and be able to in turn complete my review of those players I have in mind.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Josh
