The team has agreed to a one-year, $5M contract, pending a physical. Volquez obviously represents next year's pitching project. Like AJ Burnett, Francisco Liriano and Mark Melancon before him, his coming off a bad year, with a 5.71 ERA between the Dodgers and Padres, but with peripherals that were better than his ERA. His xFIP was 4.07. Then again, he hasn't pitched better than passably since 2008. His primary issue has been his command, a problem that also hampered Liriano.
