This is just me thinking aloud here but I'm surprised we haven't seen any talk of the Pirates considering moving Rodriguez to a relief role. They are reportedly receiving heavy interest in their two left handed pen arms and if they were to trade one of them there is really no obvious replacement.
Enter Wandy Rodriguez. Yes he is making 13 million this year but it is a widely held belief that there is no way his arm is going to hold up over 150 innings this year. So why not try and maximize value out of him by pitching him fewer innings and trying to preserve his health. Sure the risk of him getting hurt is still there but reducing his workload would surely minimize it. The Pirates have the starting pitching depth to cover this and moving him here would free up a rotation spot for Burnett if he and the Pirates work out a deal.
Admittedly its a bit of an odd thought but to me it seems to make at least a little bit of sense.
Also while we are talking about positional switches has there been any talk about Travis Snider playing some 1B? I noticed Fan Graphs had him listed there on the Pirates depth chart and found that a little odd.
