Who might have a need and be a potential trade partner for Jose Tabata, and what could we realistically expect to get in return?
IKIOSTB, the performance after the first few games has folks circling the wagons a bit on Jose again, and if you still can't get comfortable about his future projections, it might just be time to seriously consider this alternative while he still has a $1 mil year left to try and leverage.
There are a few scenarios: You can't send him down again - he won't clear waivers, and you'll get nothing.
If he continues to underperform and then begins the $3+ mil/year portion of his contract, then you'll get even less.
If he maintains a level where he can continue in a platoon role as, say, a 0.5 WAR player, then the balance of his contract would still not be worth it.
If he steps it up to the point where he can at least be a regular 1 WAR guy (ZIPS has him projected at 1.0 WAR in 2013, but also presumes that he gets 580 PAs to drive the number that high), then his contract would end up looking favorable in retrospect.
Once you've thought about those probabilities, if you think he should be traded, then the Pirates ideal window (I think) is to try to trade him in the next 6 or 7 days without the other side getting the impression that the Pirates' ideal window is the next 6 or 7 days :-)
So, given the awesome power that we here at Bucs Dugout Fanposts have to influence FO decisions, here's your chance, kids! Any Tabby trade ideas bouncing around out there?
