Pirates promote Barrett Barnes to West Virginia

Justin K. Aller

2012 supplemental pick Barrett Barnes has been promoted to West Virginia. He had been in extended spring training working through an oblique injury.

The West Virginia offense was already pretty interesting, with a strong prospect contingent in Josh Bell, Wyatt Mathisen, Dilson Herrera and Max Moroff. Also, Stetson Allie has been the Pirates' most surprising minor-leaguer this season, and Raul Fortunato and Eric Wood have also hit well. The addition of Barnes adds another toolsy prospect to that mix. I would hope Barnes will hit well and not stay at West Virginia long, given that he's a top draft pick from a big college program and he hit well for State College last year.
