Oliver fans ten, Hanson walks off with a triple

Andy Oliver allowed just one hit over six innings, Alen Hanson turned from goat into hero, and West Virginia . . . well, let's not mention them

Friday's action, with Altoona rained out:

-- Indianapolis rode an outstanding start by Andrew Oliver to a 4-1 win over Louisville. Oliver allowed just one hit and fanned ten in six shutout innings. He continued to struggle a little with his control, walking three and throwing 56 of 93 pitches for strikes. Duke Welker allowed the only run, which was unearned, in two innings of pitching. He didn't allow any hits, but walked his first three batters of the year and threw only 15 of 32 pitches for strikes. He fanned three. The one run scored when Billy Hamilton was on third with a runner on first. Welker picked off the latter and Hamilton scored during the rundown. Bryan Morris pitched a scoreless 9th for the save, allowing a single and fanning one. The Indians had only five hits, two by Darren Ford, but drew a dozen walks. The Brandon Inge Good Results Report: 0-4, one walk, two strikeouts.

-- Bradenton picked up its third win, beating Palm Beach, 5-4. The Marauders took a two-run lead into the top of the 9th, but lost it on two Alen Hanson throwing errors. Hanson redeemed himself, though, ending the game in the bottom half with a walkoff triple. For the game, Hanson went 2-4. Carlos Mesa led the offense, going 3-4 with his second HR. Elias Diaz, Jose Osuna and Dan Gamache all went 2-4. Gregory Polanco went 1-3 with a walk and two steals. Starter Adrian Sampson again struggled early, allowing a run in each of the first three innings. He recovered, though, to pitch a scoreless 4th and 5th. Sampson allowed six hits and two walks, and fanned seven.

-- West Virginia got annihilated by Hagerstown, 13-2. Joely Rodriguez got charged with nine runs, six of them unearned due to four errors. The Power had just two hits, a double by Josh Bell and a single by Max Moroff. Stetson Allie went 0-4 with three strikeouts.
