Karstens makes rehab start for Bradenton

Jeff Karstens made his first rehab start, going three innings for the Marauders. Meanwhile, Dilson Herrera kept hitting and Stetson Allie broke out of a brief slump.

Three games Monday, with Altoona off.

-- Indianapolis saw its five-game winning streak snapped by Toledo, 6-3. Kris Johnson allowed four runs over six innings and Tim Alderson gave up another two, one earned. Duke Welker, back from an exciting stint in the Pirates' bullpen, pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one walk. The Indians had only five hits. Ivan De Jesus, Jr., and Brett Carroll each had two singles, while Tony Sanchez had a double and a walk. Despite the loss, the Indians dodged a bullet as the Pirates chose to send Jordy Mercer down rather than trying to "sneak" John McDonald through waivers.

-- Bradenton broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the 8th and went on to beat Clearwater, 5-3. Jeff Karstens made his first rehab start, allowing one run on four hits in three innings. He walked none and struck out four. Adrian Sampson followed with one of his better outings, giving up two runs in five innings. He allowed six hits and a walk, and fanned three. Willy Garcia (pictured) went 2-4 with a double and a triple, and Benji Gonzalez went 2-4 with two doubles. Alen Hanson went 1-4 and Gregory Polanco remained out of the lineup.

-- West Virginia took advantage of six walks and five errors to beat Hickory, 9-5. Dilson Herrera was 2-5 with a walk, Stetson Allie 2-5 with a double, D.J. Crumlich 2-3 with a walk, and Josh Bell 1-4 with two walks. Jake Burnette made his first appearance for the Power, as he replaced Clay Holmes (ankle injury) on the roster. Burnette fanned seven over three and two thirds innings, but gave up two runs on five hits and three walks.
