Cole bombed, Taillon OK, Kingham bounces back

Gerrit Cole had a rough start, Jameson Taillon had control issues but fanned nine, Nick Kingham bounced back strongly from a bad start, and Stetson Allie and Jose Osuna went deep

Sunday's games:

-- Gerrit Cole got pounded as Indianapolis lost to Pawtucket, 11-3. He allowed eight runs, all earned, in five and two-thirds innings. The runs came on six hits and three walks. Cole fanned four. Duke Welker also had a rough outing, giving up two runs on three hits in one inning. The Indians had only four hits, including a two-run HR by Alex Presley, his third.

-- Jameson Taillon did somewhat better, although Altoona lost to Richmond, 3-0. Taillon allowed three runs on nine hits in six innings. His control wasn't good, as he walked three and threw only 54 of 102 pitches for strikes, but he did fan nine hitters. The Curve had only two hits, doubles by Alex Dickerson and Andrew Lambo. Chase d'Arnaud went 0-3.

-- Nick Kingham (pictured) bounced back from a start that lasted only two-thirds of an inning, leading Bradenton to an 8-1 win over St.. Lucie. Kingham gave up one run in seven innings on five hits. He walked none and struck out nine. He now has 51 strikeouts in his last 37.2 IP. Jose Osuna led the offense, going 3-3 with a walk and his third HR. Elias Diaz closed out the scoring with his first HR, a grand slam. Alen Hanson went 2-5 with a double. Gregory Polanco went 0-2 with two walks.

-- West Virginia got pummeled by Lexington, 12-5. Starter Jake Burnette lasted only two-thirds of an inning and got charged with six runs. He gave up three hits and two walks, and hit a batter. He left with two outs and the bases loaded, and Thomas Harlan let all the runs score before getting the last out. Jason Creasy fared better in relief, allowing one run on two hits in three and two-thirds innings. He walked none and fanned five. Stetson Allie went 3-5 with a double and his tenth HR. Max Moroff went 2-4 with a double and a walk, and Wyatt Mathisen went 2-5 with a double. Dilson Herrera went 0-4 and Josh Bell 1-4, and each drew a walk.
