Solid outings for Cole and Pimentel

Gerrit Cole and Stolmy Pimentel each had solid starts, but their teams both lost on walkoff hits

West Virginia was off on Saturday and Bradenton played two.

-- Indianapolis got a solid start from Gerrit Cole, but lost to Lehigh Valley, 3-2, in 13 innings. Cole allowed two runs on four hits and two walks in six innings. He fanned two. Jared Hughes made his first appearance since being optioned to AAA, pitching a scoreless inning and two-thirds, allowing two hits and striking out two. Ryan Reid got the first two outs in the 13th, but an error by Josh Harrison, who played short, extended the inning. It was followed by a walk and a walkoff single. Darren Ford, Ivan De Jesus, Jr., and Lucas May each had two hits. Ford hit his first HR, and De Jesus and May each had doubles.

-- Altoona got another good start from Stolmy Pimentel. He went six, allowing two runs, both on solo HRs. Pimentel gave up three other hits and two walks, and fanned four. The Curve took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th, but Jeff Inman allowed a two-run, walkoff single with two out and Altoona lost, 4-3, to Erie. The Curve had their usual quota of five hits, three of them, including a double, by Adalberto Santos (pictured), aka "The Altoona Offense." Andrew Lambo hit his fourth HR.

-- Bradenton split a doubleheader with Palm Beach. The Marauders won game one, 7-3. Gregory Polanco went 2-4 with two doubles and Willy Garcia went 2-3 with his second HR. Jose Osuna and Elias Diaz also had two hits each, while Alen Hanson went 1-3 with a walk. Robby Rowland allowed three runs, two earned, in six innings. He gave up six hits, walked none, and fanned two.

The Marauders lost game two, 8-2. Starter Matt Benedict got pounded for seven runs, six earned, in three innings. Hanson went 1-3 with a double and Polanco went 0-2.
