An obvious way to speed up the game ...

would be to implement a between-play pitch clock. It could be implemented while still keeping some of the traditional stoppages of play, such as mound visits by coaches or managers, or even limited offensive and defensive timeouts (batters stepping out of the box or catchers and pitchers strategizing). A huge benefit would be that the quality of defensive play would improve significantly. Let's face it, one of the huge reasons many don't watch is the slow pace. It is also a big reason many otherwise athletic children don't take up the game is that it takes such tremendous focus to stay mentally involved -- not a strength of the very young. Thoughts, anyone?
