It's currently June 23rd, 2013 and the Pittsburgh Pirates are 15 games above .500, second place in the NL central, and as of right now have the 2nd best record in baseball behind no other than the St. Louis Cardinals. I'm surprised but not surprised that Pedro Alvarez "el toro" is the one dragging the Pirates by their jerseys kicking and screaming to this point in the season. No other player seems to be producing for the bucs except Alvarez. The big bull has 18 HR to go along with 50 RBI. In June alone he's hit 8 bombs but this isn't just one of his destructive streaks, he's been on fire the whole month. Im talking just mauling any pitch in sight. So far this season he has statistically improved every month. So after all of this I ask, who deserves to represent the Bucs in the All-Star game? Jason Grilli? Sure. Andrew McCutchen? Ummm maybe off of reputation, he's had a solid season I'd say but he is also down in every statistic compared to this time last year. But what about Pedro Alvarez? His 18 cannons and 50 RBI's are number 1 in the league for 3rd basemen. David Wright is the only other 3rd basemen in the NL i can think of who's more deserving than pedro, but el toro's numbers are better than his(wright) by a good margin. Now although Pedro is deserving of it I doubt he'll start but I do believe he can be a reserve.
