Pimentel outstanding, Taillon less so

Everybody was in action on Tuesday, although rain interfered with a couple of games. That included Jamestown's, which was suspended after an inning and a half, with the Jammers trailing 2-0.

-- Stolmy Pimentel (pictured) turned in seven excellent innings as Indianapolis topped Louisville, 4-1. Pimentel allowed just two hits, one a solo HR, and no walks while striking out two. It was a marked contrast to many of his other starts, which have featured more Ks but with high pitch counts and too many walks. In this one, he threw only 81 pitches, 53 for strikes. Jose Contreras and Vic Black each threw a scoreless inning to finish. Alex Presley and Jared Goedert each went 3-5. Tony Sanchez was 1-4 with a double, while Andrew Lambo went 0-4.

-- Altoona finished its suspended game from yesterday, losing to Binghamton, 4-2. Before the rains came, Nick Kingham faced just two batters. The first one doubled, but Gregory Polanco threw him out at third. Kingham struck out the other. Today, Jameson Taillon picked up with two outs in the first. He ended up going only four and a third, taking 91 pitches to get that far. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks, and fanned four. Quinton Miller gave up the two decisive runs in a strange 6th inning. Miller walked the first hitter, then fanned three straight, only to have the third hitter reach on a wild pitch. That was followed by a hit batsman and two walks to force in two runs. Polanco went 1-4 and Mel Rojas, Jr., struck out as a pinch hitter, his first action since June 20. Altoona's regularly scheduled game was postponed.

-- Bradenton lost to Fort Myers, 5-2. Joely Rodriguez allowed two unearned runs on three hits and three walks in five innings. He fanned two. The only Marauders runs scored on a two-run double in the 9th by Stetson Allie, who went 1-3 with a walk.

-- West Virginia lost to Hagerstown, 4-1. Tyler Glasnow struggled in the 1st, allowing a walk, a HR, another walk and an RBI double, for three runs. He threw three scoreless innings after that, finishing with three hits and three walks allowed, and five strikeouts. Clario Perez allowed a run and fanned four in three innings. The Power had only five hits. Josh Bell went 1-3 and Max Moroff 1-4 with a double. Barrett Barnes and Dilson Herrera each went 0-4, with Barnes striking out twice.

-- The GCL Pirates split a doubleheader with the Yankees2, with both games ending 3-2. The Pirates dropped game one despite a strong start from Cesilio Pimentel. He allowed just an unearned run on one hit in four innings. Pimentel walked two and struck out five. Matt Curry went 0-3 in a rehab effort. Jerry Sands, also rehabbing walked and struck out in two plate appearances.

The Pirates took the second game. They got another good start, this one from Wei-Chung Wang. He threw four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no walks, and fanning four. Newly drafted Cameron Griffin fanned four in two scoreless innings. All of the game's runs scored in the 7th. Trailing 2-0, the Pirates rallied with an error, two infield hits, a bases-loaded walk, and a two-out, walkoff single by Carlos Ozuna.

-- The DSL Pirates1 beat the Mets2, 6-5, in a game that was called by rain with two outs in the top of the 5th. Starter Jose Regalado allowed five runs in the 1st, but threw four shutout innings after that, fanning six in his five innings. Tito Polo went 2-2 with a triple, a walk and three runs.

No results were available for the DSL Pirates2.
