Gathering IV: A Look Back.

It's been almost a week since our fourth annual Gathering. It was my third trip to Pittsburgh to join in on the festivities, (I missed the second one). The Gathering has become one of the things I look forward to all year. For me, right up there with Thanksgiving and Opening Day. This year, I decided to brew up some Amber Ale for the Gathering. I also brought along bratwursts that we didn't need. I showed up a little after noon and spent the next 12 hours just hanging out, talking, eating too much and getting a little drunk on homebrew.

I had a lot of fun talking to Mr. Soxdetox about farming. Listening to Brian Cartwright talk about his career in baseball. Talking to Vlad about, well, everything. Learning a bit about Cricket from BurgherKing, although I still don't understand it. Enjoyed giving PghPinstripes crap about being a Yankees fan. After three years, it was nice to see BucDaddy again. lfhlaw rocked the grill again this year. Beezy once again made a fantastic homebrew of his own (and I have to admit I liked his more than mine). Steelreign from the PGH Sports Forum did a great job getting us tickets for the game. And of course, the ring leader of our group, Cocktailsfor2 who brought all us crazy Pirates fans together oh and, he got these two guys to show up and take pictures and shake hands with us...

If you've never been to a Gathering before, here's what we do most of the time (sit around, talk baseball or whatever topics come up and of course, eat and drink...

And of course, the game itself was pretty good. AJ Burnett pitched pretty well, although he didn't get the win (as though that really matters). Andrew McCutchen hit us a homerun that night in the 6th to tie it up at 2-2. In the seventh, McCutchen and Russell Martin knocked in two runs to put the game away and of course Grilli got his 29th save to finish off the Muckin' Fets. Afterwards, I finally got my fourth of July firework show that I missed here in Iowa and then back to the parking lot of more partying, I hung around until everyone else left and went back to the hotel satisfied that they won a series I had attended in Pittsburgh.

So for those of you who were a lot more sober than I was that night, feel free to add your story and any pictures you may have.
