Jamestown keeps winning, McGuire keeps hitting

No DSL action on Saturday.

-- Indianapolis couldn't get anywhere against a handful of nondescript Gwinnett pitchers and lost, 2-0. Jared Hughes started the game, which is odd because he's a reliever and figures to stay in AAA anyway. He struggled through a scoreless 1st, allowing a hit and two walks, and throwing only seven of 18 pitches for strikes. The real "starter," Brandon Cumpton, allowed only three hits and a walk over five innings, while striking out five, but he gave up a two-run HR for the game's only runs. Ryan Reid struck out four in two scoreless innings. Tony Sanchez went 2-4 and Neil Walker 1-3 with a walk.

-- Altoona lost to Erie, 6-4. Justin Howard hit his third HR, and Charlie Cutler and Drew Maggi each went 2-3. Alex Dickerson went 1-3 with a double and Gregory Polanco went 1-4.

-- Bradenton scored three in the 9th to tie their game with Clearwater, but lost, 9-8, in the 11th. Adrian Sampson got hammered, giving up eight runs in three and two-thirds innings on ten hits and a walk. He struck out two. Dan Cevette, a 29-year-old LHP who's been out of pro ball for several years, fanned three in two scoreless innings. Jose Osuna went 3-6, and Stetson Allie and Benji Gonzalez each went 2-5 with a double and a walk. Alen Hanson went 1-5 with a double and a walk.

-- West Virginia beat Kannapolis, 5-1. The Power had only six hits and no walks, but all five runs were unearned. Dilson Herrera went 2-4 with a triple, Barrett Barnes 0-3 and Josh Bell 1-4 with a double. John Kuchno gave up one run in six innings on six hits and three walks. He fanned four.

-- Jamestown beat Aberdeen, 6-4. Adam Frazier, Erich Weiss and Edwin Espinal each had two hits. Harold Ramirez went 1-4 with a double and three RBIs. JaCoby Jones had a hit his first time up but was replaced before his next AB by Francisco Aponte, who went 2-3. Dovydas Neverauskas gave up just an unearned run in five innings on two hits and no walks. He struck out three.

-- The GCL Pirates struck out 14 Tigers, but lost, 9-4. Cesilio Pimentel fanned six in two and two-thirds, but gave up two HRs and four runs. Reese McGuire (pictured) had two doubles in four ABs and is now hitting 460/509/620. Ulises Montilla also went 2-4. Austin Meadows went 1-4 with a double. Trae Arbet continued to struggle, going 0-4. He's now hitting .127.
