Alvarez hit his 21st bomb last night, a 3 run homer to right field. Since El Toro was called to the majors in 2010 he's been a hit or miss kind of player, either he hits a home run or strikes out. Also he could be a really streaky player. Now in 2013, besides the first 3 weeks of the season Pedro Alvarez is somewhat productive. It almost seems like since Alvarez got his wisdom teeth pulled towards the end of May, he's showed us why the Pirates drafted him first overall.
Pedro's June slash line was: .309/.380/.680 with 10 homers and 24 RBI's. My question is, has Pedro really improved? Or is this just a month long hot streak that we have been accustomed too? I've seen a good bit of growth in the young bull this year. For one, strikeouts; Pedro still strikes out, it's almost expected. But it's the kind of pitches he's striking out on, Alvarez used to infuriate me swinging at the worst pitches, pitches so far out the box you have to jump over to the other side of the plate just to hit it. He's seeing the ball a little bit better. I see he's making more contact on the ball, his slumps are shorter and further in between. The bull is also showing up when the Pirates need him, he's adopted a little bit of the clutch gene. Pedro Alvarez is homering every 12.5 at bats which is roughly every 3 games and with 79 games left, the big bull is on pace to hit 47 homeruns. The Pirates haven't seen 47 homeruns from one player since Chicken on the hill Will. So are we witnessing Pedro grow up before our eyes? Are we seeing him get better? Has Pedro Manuel Alvarez Jr finally arrived?
