Can These Pittsburgh Pirates Go to the World Series

As of today the Pittsburgh Pirates are 88-66 and tied with the Cincinnati Reds for the top Wild Card spot. The Buccos have mustered up 88 wins while not being in the top ten of any major offensive category. This team has the MLB's 22nd best team batting average (.246) and the 18th best on base percentage (.313). However it seems to be working. With Pedro Alvarez leading the NL in home runs (34), also 7th in RBI's (93), and Andrew McCutchen having an MVP year, i guess you can live with this offense. Cutch has been nothing less than mercurial and is carrying this team kicking and fighting into October.

Does pitching World Series? If so then pencil the Pirates in. Unlike the Pirates offense, the pitching is among lead leaders. Second in ERA (3.26) and Second in BAA (.237). Due to the resurrection of Francisco Liriano, AJ Burnett being the ace and leader that he's suppose to be, Charlie Morton is lately our best pitcher, and last but not least Gerrit Cole, the rookie phenom has been pitching great recently.

Can the Pirates get to the World Series? My honest opinion, yes they can. The Pirates had no problem beating the top dogs in the NL this year. Although the offensive can be as streaky as a dirty window, I would take my chances that they show up in the playoffs. The pitching isn't going anywhere. The playoff roster would likely include Aj, Francisco, Cole and Morton. No team is going to bully these pitchers. All I'm saying is don’t be surprised if the Pirates are playing deep into October.
