Mariners to sign John Buck

Mike McGinnis

John Buck has agreed to terms with the Mariners on a one-year, $1 million deal, Jon Heyman tweets. This shuts the door on Buck's tenure with the Pirates -- or, to get silly with it, Buck is no longer a Buc.

It's no surprise, obviously, that Buck would depart. The Pirates' acquisition of him last August was a rare, and somewhat odd, luxury purchase to begin with, given that the Bucs only had to get through one more month of the season with Russell Martin and Tony Sanchez. With the acquisition of Chris Stewart this offseason, there was no chance Buck would return.
