Pirates avoid arbitration with Travis Snider

USA TODAY Sports

The Pirates have signed Travis Snider for one year and $1.2 million, avoiding arbitration. MLBTR projected Snider would make $1.4 million through the arbitration process, so the Pirates are saving a bit of money here.

Snider's salary isn't guaranteed, so the Bucs could still cut him in spring training, although they wouldn't have tendered him a contract if they didn't have some plan for him. He'll likely be an outfield reserve to start the 2014 season, with the Pirates hoping he's finally healthy, and that health was the explanation for his struggles last year.
