Pirates MiLB recap:  5/18/14

Bradenton blew a lead, West Virginia won a shutout and Indianapolis was rained out.

-- Altoona lost to Richmond, 8-2.  Zack Dodson gave up three runs, two earned, in five innings.  He gave up six hits, walked none, and fanned three.  Elias Diaz and Drew Maggi each had two hits.  Alen Hanson went 1-5 with a double and Stetson Allie 0-4 with no strikeouts.

-- Bradenton blew a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 9th and lost to Dunedin, 5-4.  Starter John Kuchno gave up two runs in five and a third innings and Thomas Harlan struck out four over the next two and two-thirds, but Robby Rowland gave up three while getting only two outs in the 9th.  Jonathan Schwind went 3-4.  Josh Bell was 0-4 with two strikeouts.

-- West Virginia blanked Delmarva, 7-0.  Dovydas Neverauskas (pictured) gave up four hits, walked nobody and struck out two over five innings.  Justin Maffei and Erich Weiss each reached base four times, with Maffei going 3-3 with a walk and Weiss 2-3 with two walks and a double.  Weiss is now hitting 320/406/415, although he's fanned once every four ABs without hitting for much power.  Reese McGuire went 1-3 with a walk, edging his average up to .280 after a slow start.  Francisco Diaz hit his first HR.
