The Pirates have now placed themselves in the thick of the wildcard race. The Lineup seems to have become pretty stable with the additions of Polanco and Davis. Unless the bucs decide to make a huge splash and deal Pedro, other than adding a SS I don't see a move coming on offense. The rotation is going to be the big need if we are going to make a run. Worley, Cumpton, Locke have all pitched well as of late. Cole just came back and Liriano is on his way. Morton has been the ace of this staff so far this season and Volquez has three nice starts out of his last 4. I think the recent good pitching has put us in a position that we no longer need to make a deal, but would like to add a top of the rotation guy if we can find the right deal. While the Pirates are playing better ball and do find themselves in the thick of it, other teams are quickly falling out of contention. Before we were talking about the cubs, Astros, Diamondbacks and rays. Now you can add the Padres, Phillies, Mets, Rockies. Next in line are some really interesting teams. The Rangers, Marlins, Red Sox Twins and White Sox. The Marlins are young and probably aren't a good match. The Red Sox probably wont admit defeat this year and I don't see them becoming sellers. The following pitchers are ones we can kick the wheels on to see what they might cost.
Danks, Quintana, Sale(probably way too much),Miley, Hughes, Gee, Neise, Lee, Hamel, Cashner. I realize some of these guys are on the DL and some of these guys will have way too high of a price range, but the point is, there are a lot more arms available now than even a week ago.
