1B Targets

There are, in my opinion, 3 1B targets that make sense in terms of upgrade, cost and control. The first option is Anthony Rizzo, however the Cubs would not easily or willingly trade him to a division rival, so we can effectively rule him out. This takes us to the prime option, Paul Goldschmidt. The cost for Goldy will be incredibly high, however I think we can mitigate some of the cost by a bigger trade. Here's what I had in mind :

Arizona gives:

Goldy, Gregorious, Addison Reed, Evan Marshall, Randall Delgado

Pittsburgh gives:

Josh Bell, Brandon Cumpton, Casey Sadler, Alen Hanson, Frieri, Joely Rodriguez, Tony Sanchez, Luis Heredia, Ike

Goldy by himself will command a big package of prospects, and by offering Hanson and Bell, we offer our two best position prospects. We can mitigate some of the cost of losing Hanson by getting Gregorious, and at the same time offer the D Backs 3 MLB ready pitchers - Cumpton, Sadler, and Frieri. In addition, giving them T Sanchez gives them a solid bench bat, and they get 2 projects in Rodriguez and Heredia. We will take underperforming relievers off their hands - Reed and Delgado, and try to get Marshall also.

The DBacks will probably want more, which case the cost will outweigh the benefit.

I think our easiest option is an under the radar player that I think would play huge in PNC -

Minnesota gives:

Parmalee, Casey Fien, Kyle Gibson

Pittsburgh gives:

Cumpton, Sadler, T Snider, T Sanchez, Ike, Joely Rodriguez

The Twins dont appear to have a spot for Parmalee, and he looks pretty athletic with a bat that can play at PNC. I have liked Fien for a couple of years, and Kyle Gibson could be a rotation mainstay that will allow us to save money by not going after FA's
