Changes to the game .......

That I would make .....

* There is a time limit between pitches, or the end of "plays". Don't know what it is, but we all know it's not enforced. Make it 7 seconds and enforce it with a well-positioned timer. If not adhered to it is an automatic ball call.

* Limit the batter to no time outs except for injury and obvious broken bat.

* Automate ball / strike calls.

* Automate fair / foul ball calls with a green or red light right next to the pitch clock.

* Umpire crew refinement would have to follow.

These simple changes would shorten game times and take much of the umpiring subjectivity out of it. Face it, we need more American kids want to play the game -- and especially inner-city kids. I know I'm probably stretching the point, but those that still pine for tradition need merely think about what the simple bucking of tradition, for example, of the crossing of the color line did for the game. Some changes of tradition regarding baseball are good!
